HEY CLASS!!

3rd Quarter ends and grades are due before Spring Break

Word Art

WORD ART

 

Each of you will make a list of 3 words that represent who you are. Be creative. Do not choose simple words like cool, or funny. Use a thunderous if you need to. Once you have made your list of 3 you will then need to figure out how you can manipulate the letters into visuals that represent those words. Once you have drawn out all of your visuals figure out which configuration would look best constructed out of clay. If I choose the word creative I may choose to change the "C" to an artist pallet and so on and so forth.

Keep in mind which direction will your letters go and how are you going to put them together. For example will your letters rest on a creative base, will they hang on a wall vertically. Please be creative and think outside of your comfort zone. Don't be afraid to try something different. REMEMBER when class you need to use more then 3 colors, and don't forget about adding patterns.

This new lesson will incorporate 3 and only 3 very small sculptures that all relate to one another. You are going to be exploring the past, present and future of something. How things alter, change, progress or age. How can we create our own distinct and vastly different changes into a visual sculpture. 
Goal- Represent 3 distinct changes of the same subject matter

Pop Portrait

POP Art Portrait Plaques

You will need to select a portrait photo, either of a person or an animal. The photo must be no larger then 5X5 inches therefore your slab of clay should be no large then 5X5 inches. Your plaque does not have to be a square either, please be creative! 

When you are ready to glaze you MUST use 4 or more colors. When choosing colors you do not have to pick the exact colors of your subject matter, but use  vibrant and abstract colors.

Coil

rolling out snakes "coils" to create an art piece.

Objective of this lesson- create a ceramic piece using hand made coils in a creative an interesting way.

Outside of the box "BOX"

When we think of the word box I am sure brown cardboard structure with 4 sides comes to mind.
Objective-
You are going to think outside of this "box" image and create your own new spin on a box with a lid. How can you be as creative as possible when creating your new BOX. 

Below are a few examples of some outside of the box "BOXES".

 
Steps to this lesson-
1. Watch demo 
2. sketch box and lid design on a piece of paper 
3.  design should be no larger then your closed fist
4. start constructing your box using either the molded or slab technique 
5. wrap box in a plastic bag and place it on your shelf for tomorrow

In this class we will be exploring the medium  CLAY! 

The creative possibilities are endless when it comes to Ceramics. As a class we will use a variety of hand building techniques along with different glazing techniques.

RULES FOR THE STUDIO (classroom)

The rules of this class are: 1) come to class prepared and ready to work 2) Be kind to others and the art materials 3) When I am talking you are listening and quiet 4) No food  5) clean up after yourself 6) look for the stop sign on the board 5 min before the bell rings to indicate clean up time 7) stay at your seat until the bell rings (no lining up) 

8) clay is used for creating artwork not throwing

IF YOU CHOOSE TO DISRESPECT ANY ONE OF THESE RULES YOU WILL SERVE A DETENTION IN MY ROOM AFTER SCHOOL!!!
